Every October, Punjab’s farmers face the same race against time. The paddy is harvested, the field is full of stubble, and wheat has to be sown quickly. For years the “fast” answer was to burn the stubble. Today there is a better way: the super seeder, which handles the stubble and sows wheat in one go.
What is a super seeder?
A super seeder is a tractor-mounted machine that combines a rotary tiller and a seed drill. It sows wheat directly into standing paddy stubble: the residue is cut, mixed into the soil, and the seed goes into the ground in a single pass. There is no need to burn the straw, and no need to plough, harrow and then sow in separate rounds.

What happens in that one pass
Burning vs super seeder
| Burning the stubble | Super seeder | |
|---|---|---|
| What happens to the straw | Burnt and lost as smoke | Cut and mixed back into the soil |
| Soil health | Organic matter and useful soil life are destroyed by the heat | Residue returns to the soil as organic matter |
| Air | Heavy smoke across villages and cities | No smoke |
| Field operations | Burn, then plough, harrow and sow separately | Cut, mix and sow in one pass |
| Legal risk | Stubble burning is banned and can be penalised | None |
Benefits for the farmer
- Saves time: one pass replaces several rounds of tillage and sowing, so wheat can go in on time right after the paddy harvest.
- Saves diesel and money: fewer passes mean less fuel, less tractor wear and less labour.
- Protects the soil: straw is returned to the soil instead of being burnt, which helps soil health over the years.
- No burning: cleaner air for your village and no risk of penalties.
- Subsidy support: the Rattan Super Seeder is eligible for government subsidy under the crop residue management scheme.
The Rattan Super Seeder
The Rattan Super Seeder is built at our ISO 9001:2008 certified factory in Nabha, Punjab, where every machine is fabricated, assembled, painted and inspected before dispatch.

Tips for good results
- Spread the straw evenly. If the combine leaves straw in heavy lines, spread it first so the super seeder can mix it in evenly.
- Watch the soil moisture. Very wet soil sticks to the blades and gives uneven sowing; slightly moist soil works best.
- Set the seed rate and depth for your wheat variety before you start, and check the first few metres.
- Drive at a steady, slow speed so the residue is mixed properly and seed is placed evenly.
- Use a tractor with enough power. A super seeder works the soil and sows at the same time, so it needs more power than a seed drill. Tell us your tractor HP and we will advise you.
- Keep it maintained: grease the moving parts, check the gearbox oil, inspect the blades and clean the seed box after use.
